More Stories of Impact from Boise Low Income Support in 2024!

In 2024, our efforts to support individuals and families facing housing insecurity have continued to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many. From providing crucial resources for parents working to improve their circumstances, to offering compassionate support for the unhoused and their pets, we’ve been privileged to assist people in overcoming difficult challenges. Here are some of the inspiring stories that highlight how your generosity is helping us transform lives and build a stronger community.

  1. Linda was a single mother living in low-income housing with her two children – one who was autistic. She started a day care to earn money but during the summer the temperatures were getting too hot to run the day care since there was no AC for cooling. Our non-profit purchased a portable AC which would work in her unique environment which allowed her to earn money.
  2. Chris lived in his car with his dog of 8 years and uses the day shelter facilities almost every day for meals, hygiene, and support. He could move into the shelter, but he couldn’t take his dog. Chris was admitted to the hospital for breathing issues. Chris had our business card when he was admitted so the hospital reached out to us. Our nonprofit found his dog in his car and placed him in temporary foster while Chris recuperated. Chris was in the hospital for 5 days and knowing his dog was OK was a critical in his recovery. Chris now lives in group home where is dog is welcome.
  3. Bonnie, on the housing waiting list, decided to return to school. Our nonprofit provided a laptop so she could continue her studies.
  4. Many unhoused individuals have pets for companionship. Our non-profit partners with The Street Dog Coalition to have a free clinic for their pets, offering free physical exams, vaccinations, parasite control, and spay-neuter vouchers. This outreach program is the first in Boise and has provided over 75 free exams to keep the pets safe and healthy for the unhoused.
  5. John was staying at an approved short term housing with his 10 year old daughter. There was a one day gap where the temporary housing would not be available. Since there are no Boise shelters allowing men with daughters, he decided it would be better to stay in his truck than have his daughter stay somewhere else. Our nonprofit was notified and we provided the motel until the housing was reinstated.
